Nau mai, haere mai ki Maioha Studio
Maioha Studio is dedicated to creating mahi toi or art pieces representing ancient Maori concepts in modern form.
Intangible treasures made tangible, encapsulating mythological motif and narrative.
Currently our studio is focused on the creation of taonga whakarakei or adornment, often gifted as a taonga or treasure.
Hence our overarching kaupapa matua or main theme Maioha, meaning ‘token of affection or high regard’ and ‘to greet, welcome or appreciate’.
Body ornaments were traditionally worn to signify status, leadership and whakapapa /genealogy or at significant events.
